Grocery Manager

This is a full-time, 40-hours-per-week position responsible for supervising cashiers and stockers. Ideally, the grocery manager would work Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 6:00 with a one-hour break. However, there is flexibility if weekend or evening hours are preferred. This position will earn $16.00 hourly, paid on a bi-weekly basis with a discretionary quarterly bonus. No additional benefits are offered.

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in business, management, or retail operations preferred.

    Experience: Minimum of 1 year of supervisory or lead experience required, ideally within a grocery store, supermarket, or retail environment; experience overseeing front-line staff, such as cashiers, stockers, or sales associates, strongly preferred.

    Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead by example, promote teamwork, and maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced setting; skilled at motivating employees to deliver consistent, high-quality service; capable of providing clear direction while supporting staff growth and accountability.

    Operational Knowledge: Working knowledge of grocery or retail operations, including stocking, merchandising, and point-of-sale procedures; ability to manage time efficiently and coordinate daily activities to meet store standards; attention to detail in maintaining cleanliness, organization, and product freshness.

    Customer Service Orientation: Genuinely enjoys interacting with customers and ensuring a positive shopping experience; committed to treating all customers and coworkers with hospitality, fairness, and respect.

    Financial Awareness: Basic understanding of cash handling, inventory tracking, and sales reporting; ability to follow established financial procedures accurately and responsibly.

    Communication: Clear and professional communicator, both in person and in writing; comfortable relaying information between staff and the Store Manager to ensure operational alignment; able to handle feedback constructively and contribute to a collaborative team environment.

  • Leadership & Culture

    • Support the Store Manager in promoting a positive, community-focused culture among cashiers and stockers.

    • Lead by example through reliability, teamwork, and consistent hospitality on the sales floor.

    • Reinforce store policies, service expectations, and values through daily guidance and coaching.

    • Communicate feedback from staff and customers to the Store Manager to support continuous improvement.

    Operations Management

    • Oversee daily tasks of cashiers and stockers to ensure efficient checkouts, accurate pricing, and well-stocked shelves.

    • Maintain product freshness, rotation, and presentation standards across all grocery and front-end areas.

    • Track inventory needs, prepare restocking lists, and assist with vendor deliveries as directed by the Store Manager.

    • Ensure all equipment, aisles, and workspaces are safe, organized, and compliant with store cleanliness standards.

    • Step in to perform cashier or stocking duties as needed to keep operations running smoothly.

    Customer & Community Relations

    • Provide friendly, attentive service that makes every shopper feel welcome and appreciated.

    • Address basic customer questions and concerns promptly, referring larger issues to the Store Manager when appropriate.

    • Support the Store Manager in fostering strong relationships with repeat customers and community members.

    • Uphold the store’s hometown reputation for fairness, honesty, and trusted quality in all interactions.

    Financial & Administrative Responsibilities

    • Accurately handle cash, tills, and daily reconciliation in accordance with store procedures.

    • Support the Store Manager by monitoring sales trends, identifying out-of-stock items, and minimizing waste.

    • Assist in scheduling cashiers and stockers to ensure proper coverage during operating hours.

    • Maintain accurate records of inventory counts and communicate needs for reorder or adjustments.

    Employee Development

    • Train and orient new cashiers and stockers on store operations, product handling, and customer service standards.

    • Offer ongoing coaching and support to help team members grow in skill and confidence.

    • Recognize strong performance and report employee achievements or concerns to the Store Manager.

    • Encourage teamwork, pride, and accountability in representing the store’s mission and values.
